Snacks!!!!

We are in need of some more snacks. Some of the favorites are goldfish, pretzels, graham crackers and anything else cracker related. Please try to buy snacks for the whole class and not anything in individual bags.

CHRISTMAS COOKIES

On Thursday, Dec. 20^th, our classes will be decorating cookies.  If you could please send either a jar of frosting or a bottle of sprinkles before that date, it would be greatly appreciated and would help make our activity much more festive.

Reading Objectives 

K.RF.1a- Follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page by page

K.RF.1c- Understand that words are separated by spaces

Keep the shoe box in a place in the house where you and your child can find and read them EVERY NIGHT, maybe keep his/her shoebox next to his/her bed.

• This weeks book- Gingerbread Man- My gingerbread man has a mouth. My gingerbread man has a nose.
• Last weeks book- What is it?  Is it a bike? Is it a car?

Reading this Week 

Gingerbread Man books- So far we have read  The Gingerbread Boy, The Gingerbread Girl, The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School, and The Gingerbread Man.  

We are going to read the following books the rest of the week: The Gingerbread Man,  Gingerbread Pirates, Gingerbread Friends, etc.. After reading some of the books we are going to retell the story and compare and contrast the settings, characters, problems and much more. Also, with one of the books we are going to sequence the story (put the characters in the correct order) and then retell the story using the pictures.

Math this Week

Second Quarter (counting and cardinality)

Count forward beginning from a beginning number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).

• also just practice counting while waiting for a commercial to end. Instead of starting at one (1), start counting at 8, 15, or any number you child wants to start with.

Number and Operations in Base Ten

Compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each composition or decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 18 = 10 + 8); understand that these numbers are composed of ten ones and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones.

Materials: die marked with numerals 1-6, double ten frames, counters, numbers 10-20

- Work with a partner. Collect one die, number cards, and a double ten frame each. 

- Pick a number (10-20) Lets say... 15

- Take turns to roll a die and count out a matching number of counters. 

- Place one counter in each space on your top frame.

- Keep taking turns until you have both filled all 15 spaces on your frames. 

- First one to 15 wins, BUT the winner has to say 15 is 10 and 5 more. If the person does say 10 and 5 more is 15,  the partner can steal the point by saying it and win the point

- Remove your counters and play again. 

- Keep a running tally of who wins most and the winner gets a special prize

 Five Senses

Please make sure each object fits inside his/her backpack and is concealed in a bag, so the students can rely on one of his/her five senses.

      

• Tuesday (Dec. 18^th)- bring something to feel. It could be soft, scratchy,    

           prickly, or smooth.

• Friday (Dec. 21^st )- is our tasting day. Please bring 25 pieces of

       something for `us to taste. This could be cereal, chips, fruit or vegetables cut 

       up, sweet, sour, or salty foods.
