• Deliver the mail- Deliver the mail to the correct mailbox. Listen to the number and find the matching door.

Snacks!!!!

We are in need of some more snacks. Some of the favorites are goldfish, pretzels, graham crackers and anything else cracker related. Please try to buy snacks for the whole class and not anything in individual bags.

Butterbraids

Butterbraids will be dropped of Tuesday, December 11th. Butterbraids must be taken home immediately because they are still frozen. Please make necessary arrangements to pick them up on Tuesday.

Alberta Bair Performance

We are going to watch a performance of The Velveteen Rabbit on Thursday, February 21st, 2013 at 12:30 p.m.. The Rose Park PTA has thoughtfully paid for our transportation. Because of their generosity the students only need to pay for their admission ($5.50 CASH ONLY). In order to secure the best seats possible, we need to send the money into the Alberta Bair office ASAP. Please send the money and the permission slip back by Friday, December 14th.

Christmas Fun at Rose Park

To add a little fun to the month of December we are going to Deck The Halls with a little Christmas wear! 

This is for all staff and students. 

• Friday, December 14, wear your Christmas sweaters and tops on.
• Friday, December 21, a day to wear your Christmas jammies! YESSS 

TAKE-HOME BOOK

Keep the shoe box in a place in the house where you and your child can find and read them EVERY NIGHT, maybe keep his/her shoebox next to his/her bed.

Reading this Week and Next Week

Reading 

Gingerbread Man books- I was able to accumulate several different Gingerbread books from other schools around the district. We are going to read all of them, retell the story and compare and contrast the settings, characters, problems and much more.

 At-home suggestion- After reading any book, have your child or together summarize the key details of the story (characters, setting, sequence of events and more).

Phonics Objectives

• Reading Foundational- K.RF.2a- Recognize and produce rhyming words.
• participate in rhymes, songs and discussions

• Reading Foundational- K.RF.2d- Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three- phoneme (consonant-vowel, consonant, or CVC) words. This does not include CVCs ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.)

- identify initial and final sounds of spoken words.

Math this Week

Second Quarter (counting and cardinality)

Count forward beginning from a beginning number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).

• Instead of using counters you can always substitute crackers, cereal, and toys (legos)
• You can also just practice counting while waiting for the traffic light. Instead of starting at one (1), start counting at 8, 15, or any number you child wants to start with.

Number and Operations in Base Ten

Compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each composition or decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 18 = 10 + 8); understand that these numbers are composed of ten ones and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones.

 Five Senses

Please make sure each object fits inside his/her backpack and is concealed in a bag, so the students can rely on one of his/her five senses.

      

• Tuesday (Dec. 11^th) - bring something to smell. We will pass these

        scented objects around for all to smell and decide if we like it or not.

• Tuesday (Dec. 18^th)- bring something to feel. It could be soft, scratchy,    

           prickly, or smooth.

• Friday (Dec. 21^st )- is our tasting day. Please bring 25 pieces of

       something for `us to taste. This could be cereal, chips, fruit or vegetables cut 

       up, sweet, sour, or salty foods.
