Family Fun Night at Fuddruckers and Skate World will be this Monday, January 7! Join us at Fuddruckers starting at 4PM for dinner, then head on over to Skate World from 6-8 PM. Be sure to mention Rose Park School at both places. Come for as much or as little time as you'd like, and have some fun with other families from our school!

School Visitor's

VISITOR STICKERS are mandatory. Parents will be directed to the office if they do not have a visitor badge on. Parents must enter the OFFICE DOORS and check in at the office before going down any of our hallways with classrooms. Even if some of the staff knows you well, please walk around the outside of the building and enter the office doors  

Students are to NOT OPEN EXTERIOR DOORS to adults. All adults should have keys or be entering the front doors.

Keep the shoe box in a place in the house where you and your child can find and read them EVERY NIGHT, maybe keep his/her shoebox next to his/her bed.

Effective Strategies For Reading Success

Sight word acquisition is an important building block in the construction of a child’s ability to read. Once she is able to read all of the words on Dolch’s lists for example, she has access to up to 75% of what is printed in almost any piece of children’s literature. How exactly do teachers and parents help children develop their stores of sight words?There are several proven techniques that any adult can use to teach sight words. Whichever strategies are employed, the best success is seen when one adult with a small number of children at a time. The more one-on-one time a child has learning and practicing sight words with an adult, the greater his chances to integrating them into his long-term memory

What is robust vocabulary? Text Talk instruction focuses on robust words. Each word was chosen because it: Represents a familiar concept. For example, while students may not know “ bicker ,” they already know “ fight .” Will appear later in text or standardized tests. Students are likely to encounter words like “ forlorn ” and “ misconception ” in chapter books and on standardized tests starting in 3rd and 4th grades. Math This Week

Review - Counting to 100 - Counting by 10's to 100 - Identify shapes (triangle, circle, square, rectangle, and hexagon)- Look around the house and see what shapes your child sees. - Describe objects using names of shapes and position (on, above, under, top, middle, bottom)       - At home idea- when putting dishes away describe what shelf you are putting         them on. " I am putting the glass on the top/middle/bottom shelf. The bowls go        above the plates. The silverware goes below the counter." - Identify solid figures (cone, cylinder, sphere, cube, pyramid) -Compose and decompose numbers from 11-19 and count forward from a given number    - Using base ten blocks count the rods and cubes and determine the number.    - Using legos have your child create rods/towers that only have 10 pieces. For example show your child 1 rod and 5 cubes. Students first count the rod then the individual cubes. When pointing to the tower/rod he/she will say, "10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15". Then have your child write the number.
