EARLY RELEASE DAY

September 22, 2011 (Thursday)

Students leave at noon.

Sack lunches are available to order for Thursday. Send the half sheet of purple paper, confirming your child will need a sack lunch by TUESDAY (Sept. 20).

Saturday Live- September 24th at Pioneer Park

-Our school will serve "tacos in a boat". We need all the HELP we can get. Even if you can

only come and help serve the food for an hour, it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. You can call or

email me any time this week if you are available.

Maps of Saturday Live went home on Monday. More maps are available at the office. Tickets will be available to buy ahead of time before and after school later this week.

Math This Week

The students will learn how to use objects to represent and count the quantities 4 and 5.

• Idea for home- Find some standard playing cards. Get two of each cards for 1-5 and play matching and/or Go Fish. Remember to have your child touch each dot on the card and count how many things are on the card (this is to reinforce the skill of one to one correspondence).

The students will learn how to recognize and write the numerals that describe the quantities 4 and 5.

• Idea for home-Have you or your child write 4 and 5. Beside each number, have them put the correct number of cereal, stickers, buttons, etc. next to the number. (This works for any number.)

The students will learn how to recognize and write the numeral that descries the quantity 0.

• Idea for home- Play the game "Show Me". Get six baggies and fill each one with 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 things in a bag (Ie. one bag holds 5 buttons, another holds 4 crackers, another hold 3 crayons, and so on). Give the six bags to your child and tell them to show you the bag holding five things. Keep changing the number you show or tell them toshow you; therefore, allowing you to see if your child can make the quantity in thebag match the number they are shown or told.

Letters this weekThe letters Ss, Hh, Rr, Dd, Ll will be introduced this week. For each letter everyday, we are singing the alphabet, reading a special book about the letter of the day, and listening and identifying pictures starting with the letter of day (Ie. Monday was letter Ss- we found n, nuts, #9, and much much more).

• Last week we were going to look and listen to the letters Ss, Hh, and Rr; however, I am still figuring out the kids schedule and sometimes we do not get to as much as I plan.
• Have your child go on a LETTER HUNT and find all the thing inside or outside of your house that is
• the letter of the day (Letter of the day "Ss"-snack, snake, scissors, soup, salad, etc.).

at home when the kids are practicing saying the alphabet and recognizing every letter.

Scholastic Book Orders

I will be sending out a Scholastic Book order form on October 3. In the book orders you will be able to purchase books and audio books that are age appropriate for your child.

In the mean time, I have sent home a list of Kellogg products you can buy to help our classroom library grow. After you buy one of the items on the list, cut out the barcode, and send it to school. Every 2 barcodes earns the class $5 toward Scholastic books.
