Math This Week
9-4 Use a ten-frame to show 10 in different ways.
- At home ideas- Make a Lego tower made up of 10 blocks in two colors (5 blue and 5 green). Have your child count and tell the number of each color (Ie. 10 is 5 blue and 5 green).
- To extend the activity change the number of colored Legos’s in the tower of 10 blocks, draw a picture, or write the sentence (Ie. 10 is 6 blue and 4 green).
9-6 Objective- Find the number that is 1 more or 2 more than a given number.
- At home idea- Give your child 3 crackers/toys and have him/her tell how many there are in the whole group. He/she needs to ask for 1 or 2 more crackers and then say how many there are now (I.e. “3 crackers and 2 more is 5).
- To extend the activity change the beginning number of objects and if he/she asks for 1 or 2 more.
9-7 Objective- Find the number that is 1 fewer or 2 fewer than a given number.
- At home idea- While eating an afternoon snack or dinner have your child count how many cookies, crackers, apples, etc. he/she has on his/her plate. After eating 1 or 2 pieces discuss what happened and how many items are left on the plate. For example: I have 6 crackers and I eat 2 crackers. I would say, “ I had 6 crackers and ate 2. Now I have 4 left”. OR “2 fewer than 6 crackers is 4”.)
- To extend the activity change the type of item being eaten and/or the number of items on the plate.
