WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY!!!!
-Winter weather is here to stay. The students need to start bringing appropriate winter clothing (snow boots, snow pants, gloves, hats, and a warm coat) EVERYDAY! Students will also need to bring an extra pair of shoes they can wear inside.
- It can take an adult a couple of minutes to get their winter gear on. Five and six year olds can take up to ten minutes to get their winter gear on and off each time. We need to cut this time down, so we can have more learning time! Please have your child practice getting his/her winter gear on and off. Have them practice getting their stuff on in this order (snow pants, snow boots, hat, coat, and mittens). Thanks for all of your help!
Chapter 4 - Numbers Through Ten
Objective- Use objects to represent and count the quantities 6 and 7.
Objective- Use objects to represent and count the quantity 8.
At home idea- Draw 7 apples on a paper. Ask your child how many oranges there would be if you draw one more/one fewer.
Review Calendar Skills (For example: the days of the week, months of the year, and what a calendar looks like.)
At home ideas- Look at the calendar with your child and ask him/her to count the number of days in December. Then see if he/she can find what day of the week December 1st, 10th, 6th, etc... is.
Objective- Recognize and write the numerals that describe the quantities 6, 7, and 8.
At home idea- Hold up 6 fingers and ask your child to write the number. Repeat with numbers 1-8.
Objective- Use objects to represent and count the quantities 9 and 10.
At home idea- Use playing cards/dot cards that have from 1 to 10 on them. Show a card and ask your child to count and say how many dots they see..
Find some standard playing cards. Get two of each cards for 1-9 and play matching/Go Fish. Remember to have your child touch each dot on the card and count how many things are on the card (this is to reinforce the skill of one to one correspondence and build

****IMPORTANT INFORMATION****
The students have been learning how to point to one word at a time (one-to-one correspondence), read from the top to bottom, and from left to right. However many of the students maybe pretending to read. We read the story in class enough times the kids start to memorize the story; however, that does not mean they are actually reading the stories and can pick out individual words like can, see, and, or, the. Go on a word hunt and pick out a word on the page your child has to find and spell.
Reading and writing this week
Reading Objective- Children will use illustrations to aid comprehension
-Children will derive pleasure from reading, listening, and viewing books.
- Match spoken words to printed words.
Writing Objective- sound out individual words
- know the difference between individual letters and printed words.

The Rose Park Christmas Stroll will be Thursday, December 9th (weather permitting).
For those who have never participated in the stroll, students and parents gather at the school and walk over to Christmas Wreath Lane (Avenue D) and sing Christmas Carols as a big group. Usually Santa is out at one of the houses down at the end of the street, which is a big hit for the kids. After caroling, we return to the school for hot chocolate and cookies.
