Math this week
Objective- Solve problems by identifying patterns, determining the core that repeats , and showing the pattern in another way.
Idea for home- Make a ABC or AB pattern with cereal (different color, size, or type) and have your child draw a similar ABC or AB pattern using color or drawing shapes.
Objective- Create and extend patterns.
Idea for home- Place two or three different kinds of crackers (or other household items) in a pile and have you child sort the crackers and then make an AB or ABC pattern. Ask your child to show you where the pattern repeats/starts over.
Have your child read the pattern aloud and identify each repeating part.
Chapter three (Numbers through 5)
Objective- Use objects to represent and count the quantities 1, 2, and 3.
At home ideas- Have children draw or cut out 1 square, 2 triangle, and 3 circles. Give your child three crayons, pencils, buttons, etc. and ask your child to pick up 1, 2, or 3 things on the table.
Objective- Recognize and write the numerals that describe the quantities 1, 2, and 3
At home idea- Have your child write 1, 2, and 3. Next to the numeral, have him/her draw/cut out and glue the corresponding number of shapes or magazine pictures.
This is an excellent time to start playing Go Fish or Matching with your child. Have cards with a number on it and another that matches the quantity (Ex. 2 and the other card has 2 circles.)
The letters Qq, Uu, Vv, and Xx will be introduced this week. We are looking at each childs name and identifying if the letter of the day is in his/her name. We are also listening and identifying pictures starting with the letter of day.
