Math this week:

-Use more than one attribute to sort set of objects.

*Have your child find objects around the house and then have him/her sort the objects. Here are some questions you can ask your child.

- How are these shapes/objects sorted? (Everything in this group are blue and a triangle). What makes this group of objects all the SAME? (Everything is small and brown.)

-Solve problems by determining the sorting rule for groups of sorted objects.

*Have your child find objects around the house and tell your child you are going to sort the objects a certain way. The way you sort is called the SORTING RULE. Begin sorting a group of household items and ask your child if an item belongs in the group? Why or why not? Are the items in this group going to look the same or different?

-Review concepts, skills, and strategies leaned in this chapter

* Inside and outside * Over under, and on

* Top, middle, bottom * Left and right

- Calendar Skills- We will learn about the days of the week, months of the year, and what a calendar looks like.

Letters this week

The letters Nn, Pp, Hh, and Aa, will be introduced this week. We are looking at each childs name and identifying if the letter of the day is in his/her name. We are also listening and identifying pictures starting with the letter of day.

Ideas for Home

Please practice tying shoes and zipping up coats.

ABC Practice:

-Flash cards of capital and lowercase letters. Start with about five cards in a pile. Once your child has memorized the first five add one or two more letters to the pile. Keep adding more cards until your child can identify all the capital and lowercase letters.

At home have your child practice writing his or her name. To keep it more interesting for the kids, you can have them use crayons, markers, color pencils, etc.

o I Pledge Allegiance, By Bill Martin Jr. and Michael Sampson

We discussed what the American flag looks like and practiced what it looks and sounds like reciting The Pledge of Allegiance with our voice and in sign language.

o Jingle Dancer, By Cynthia Leitich Smith

We learned about Native American Pow-wow dances and tribal regalia. We discussed the importance of extended family and tribal kinship of the Northern Cheyenne and Crow tribes.
