Reading Tip of the Week: 

• If your child gets stuck on a word you might say, “Try something. Look at the picture. What clues does the picture give about what’s happening. What would make sense?”

??? Mystery Item of the Day ???

Everyday one student will be taking home a special backpack. The student will work with his/her family to find one item to bring to school (kind of like Show and Tell). It must fit inside the backpack and be school appropriate. The family should write 3 clues to describe the item together and then send it back the NEXT DAY.

There are 18 kids, so optimistically if everyone brings the backpack back the NEXT day everyone should have their turn by Christmas.

Please remember all ballots must be in the Elections Office by 8:00p.m. on November 5, 2013 in order to be counted. Ballots may be dropped off at the elections office on the first floor of the County Courthouse from 8 a.m. to noon Monday and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. From 7 a.m. till 8 p.m. Tuesday, ballot drop-off boxes also will be available at: Bench Elementary School, 505 Milton Road Riverside Middle School, 3700 Madison Faith Evangelical Church, 3145 Sweetwater Drive

Math This Week

K.CC5 Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects. 

I will introduce the concept that a teen number  is a group of ten and ones.  13  is  one ten and three,  14  is  one ten and 4, 15 is one ten and 5.

Print off this 20 frame and use as a template. Write the number 13 and have your child put 13 objects on the  10 frame. First, put 10 on the first 10 frame and 3 on the other. 

 Count together. Make sure to count one objects at a time.

TRY OTHER NUMBERS 0-15!!

Classify objects and count the number of objects in each category
K.MD3 Classify objects into given categories; count the number in each category and sort the categories by count. (Limit category counts to be less than or equal to 10)

Possible Activities:

Button Sort- click on the underlined words to go to game to play at home game.

   - Instead of sorting buttons... give your child a group of legos, toys, or a group filled with a variety of objects of different sizes and colors. Have them identify how they sorted them (all red or all are small) and how many are in each group (This group has 5 and this group has 10. 10 is more than 5.)

Compare numbers
K.CC6 Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group
