Balance- Find the correct weight to make the balance level (weighs the same)

Compare numbers (less than, greater than, equal to)

• Snakes on a Ladder (just like shoots and ladders)- practice counting on to 100
• 100 chart- The interactive 100 number chart is a great way for students to discover number patterns, skip count, and learn multiplication tables. Color the interactive number charts to find patterns in numbers or use them for counting exercises. Children can print their charts too!

• Shark Numbers- count the ten sticks/rod and squares (counting on)
• Tens and Ones- Count the tens and ones and match the number (matching)

Valentine's Day

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, February 13^th(early dismissal day). If you would like to bring any healthy snacks on Wednesday to celebrate Valentine’s Day, the kids would love it. Students may also bring Valentines for everyone in the class. Here is a list of all 23 students in our class. Please label each of the valentines with the name and corresponding number, so it is easier to distribute the valentines. Students may bring their Valentines starting on Monday, February 11^th.

Teaching Sight Words With Games

Once children have had the opportunity to study new sight words, games are a fun, hands on way to help strengthen their retention. These games are easy to create at home or at school and can be modified based on the particular sight words a child is learning at the time.

• Wordo—Played just like the game Bingo, but this version uses sight words instead of numbers on a grid card.
• Concentration—Sight word concentration cards can easily be made using index cards. Simply write each word on two cards, shuffle and lay face down to play.

MATH THIS WEEK
DESCRIBE AND COMPARE MEASURABLE ATTRIBUTES.

• K.MD.1. Describe measurable attributes of objects, such as length or weight. Describe several measurable attributes of a single object.
• K.MD.2. Directly compare two objects with a measurable attribute in common, to see which object has “more of”/“less of” the attribute, and describe the difference. For example, directly compare the heights of two children and describe one child as taller/shorter.

**Objective  Compare and order objects by weight        Vocabulary Heavier (weighs more), lighter (weighs less), about the same At home idea-  Find a household item like a cup. Have your child draw a picture of something that is lighter than the cup, one that is heavier, and one that weighs about the same. **Objective- Estimate the wight of objects and measure their weight in nonstandard units. At home idea- Have your child draw a picture of a balance with a heavier object on one side and a lighter object on the other. **Objective- Compare and order sets of objects by size Vocabulary- larger, smaller; small, medium, large; big, bigger, biggest; smallest; largest At home idea- find 3 different kinds of legos and order them from small, medium, larger. To extend the activity find any objects around the objects like 3 different kinds of glasses, bowls, plates, pillows, etc, and use the vocabulary above to identify each item ("The glass is larger than the coffee mug.")
