Welcome to Mrs. Hanson's Blog

Last week we spent a lot of time getting to know the classroom and what I expect. Some things we will devote most of our time on for the next few weeks include the following and many more: 
          -lining up -sitting at the rug or table -getting the art tub

- fire drill -putting away papers -stacking chairs

The students have been very willing to try and learn new things in their new classroon; however, it will take some time before it becomes a normal routine. I really want to make sure behaviors are under control before we jump into a lot of academic work. It is almost like we are starting the whole school year over unfortunately.

TAKE-HOME BOOK

Thank you for all the shoe boxes! On Thursday we are going to paint the boxes. I really want the students to put their personal touch on the boxes, so they want to open it every night and read some of the books inside.

Keep the shoe box in a place in the house where you and your child can find and read them EVERY NIGHT, maybe keep his/her shoe box next to his/her bed.

Math This Week

Students will...

-Use the words, over, under, and on to describe the position of objects.

-Use the words top, middle, and bottom to describe position.

-Use the words left and right to describe position.

The students will identify and describe squares, rectangles, circles and triangles

• At home ideas- Have your child draw a picture using only rectangles and squares. He/she could also draw the rectangles and squares and identify which  shape is the square or rectangle.

• At home ideas- Have your child draw a picture using only circles and/or triangles.
• Go on a scavenger around the house and find all the shapes (square, circle, rectangle, and triangle). Ie. "The table is a circle. The TV is a rectangle. The window is square." 

8-1 Objective- Students will identify spheres, cues, cones and cylinders

• At home idea- Find household objects (tissue box, soccer ball, tin can, box, etc.) and have your child figure out which object is a sphere, cube, cone, and cylinder.
• At home idea- use the same household items from the previous activity and ask your child to show and name the objects that rolls (sphere, cone, or cylinder), stacks, and/or slides.

8-3 Objective- Students will identify the shape of the surface of a solid figure 

• At home idea- Have your child take each of the solid figures (cubes, cones, and cylinders) and trace its flat surfaces. Label the drawing/shapes with your child. (I.e the cub has six flat surfaces that are all squares).
